ezTrips vs. TripIt, honestly.

These two products solve different halves of a trip. TripIt organises what you have already booked and gets you through travel day; ezTrips decides what to book in the first place. Here is the straight comparison, including when TripIt is the one you want.

What TripIt gets right

TripIt invented forward-your-confirmation-and-we-will-sort-it, and two decades on it is still the cleanest implementation of it. One address, any booking source, and a comprehensive itinerary appears — flights, hotels, cars, trains, cruises, even OpenTable and Eventbrite bookings, with dates, times and confirmation numbers pulled out for you. Inbox sync does it passively, on the free tier.

The Pro alerting layer is genuinely deep, and deeper than ours in the airport specifically: real-time flight alerts, a "Go Now" nudge for when to leave, terminal and gate reminders, connecting-gate directions, baggage-claim location on landing, alternate flights when something breaks, and fare refund monitoring.

It is also mature and well backed, with a long track record and a strong fit for business travel. If your trips are mostly flights and hotels booked elsewhere, that is a lot of value for $49 a year.

    Booking-agnostic by design: TripIt does not sell travel and states plainly that you handle the booking. Pro tracks reward programmes and monitors fares for refunds.5

    ezTrips

    Booking links surfaced where the plan needs them, confirmations organised alongside it — including by forwarding an email — and spend tracked from confirmed bookings. Checkout happens on the provider’s own site; some links earn us a referral fee, which never affects what the plan recommends.

    Two ways to pay, neither of them monthly: ezPass is one-time for a single trip — $5/day, capped at $50 for 10-14 day trips, and it does not auto-renew — or ezPro at $99/year if you travel often.

When TripIt is the better pick

  • You only want your confirmations gathered into one timeline. That is precisely what TripIt is for, it works with anything you have booked anywhere, and the free tier already does it.3
  • You fly often and want airport-grade alerting — gate changes, connections, baggage claim, alternate flights. TripIt Pro goes further into the airport than ezTrips does.2
  • You travel for work, where the trip is decided for you and the job is keeping the details straight, sharing them with colleagues and syncing to a calendar.4
  • You want a free option: TripIt’s free tier organises plans, syncs with your calendar and adds plans from your inbox. ezTrips has no free tier.5

Honest answers

Is ezTrips a TripIt alternative?

Only partly, and it is worth being clear about it. TripIt organises trips you have already booked and shepherds you through travel day. ezTrips works earlier: it decides what the trip should be, from real places checked for opening hours and closures, then keeps the bookings and spend with the plan and guides the day. If all you need is your confirmations in one timeline, TripIt does that job well.

Could I use both?

Plenty of people reasonably would. They overlap least of any two tools in this category: one plans the trip, the other tracks the flights. ezTrips also organises confirmations you forward it, so you may find you do not need both — but we are not going to tell you that TripIt has no place if flight alerting is what you value.

Does ezTrips do the forward-your-email thing too?

Yes. Forwarding a confirmation to your trip attaches the booking to it, and the spend tracker reads from confirmed bookings. TripIt has been doing it for far longer across a wider spread of booking sources, which is a fair thing to weigh.

Does ezTrips send flight alerts like TripIt Pro?

Not to the same depth. ezGo covers the day of travel — when to leave for what is next, live ETAs, and a re-plan when the day goes sideways — but TripIt Pro goes further inside the airport specifically, with gate changes, connecting-gate wayfinding and baggage-claim location. If that layer is why you are asking, TripIt Pro is the stronger tool for it.
